  • To celebrate A Night Less Ordinary's first birthday, celebrities from Colchester are encouraging more young people to visit their local theatre, for free.

Cast members from Romeo and Juliet have invited Olympian Sarah Claxton, Heart FM breakfast presenter Sam Vangeen and two Colchester United players to join them for a dancing lesson - some basic Tango moves - and to hand out free tickets to under 26s for three forthcoming productions at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.

Under-26s turning up to the Mercury box office at 1pm tomorrow could get free tickets to see The Secret of Sherlock Holmes (until Saturday 20 February), Romeo and Juliet with Astillero – a live seven-piece street tango orchestra (Thursday 25 February to Saturday 13 March), and Huck – The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 March)

A Night Less Ordinary encourages young people to try out theatre for free and each week an allocation of tickets is made available for productions at the Mercury and other theatres around the country. To qualify, young people just need to register, choose a play and collect their ticket!*

Since February 2009 the Mercury has given away 1,000 free tickets to local young people and has more than 1,000 more to give away this year.

*Parents or guardians can register for younger children. Free tickets are subject to availability.
