Spooks star Rupert Penry-Jones, currently appearing as DI Joseph Chandler in the new ITV drama series Whitechapel gave his support for A Night Less Ordinary:
'Live theatre at its best is a magical experience – it sucks you in and makes you forget everything around you. So I’m all for a scheme that encourages more young people to share that magic.
A Night Less Ordinary is exactly what they need at the moment – with the recession making nights out more of a luxury, here’s something really different young people can enjoy for free.
It’s great to see so many theatres across the country working together to make it happen.'
Rupert Penry-Jones is best known for his portrayal of clean-cut television heroes such as Adam Carter in Spooks, and Captain Wentworth in Persuasion. Last Christmas, as Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps, he was chased across our screens by a biplane and he is currently starring in Whitechapel, a new ITV1 drama series about the hunt for a modern day Jack the Ripper. But Rupert began his career on stage and in 1999, as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, he won the Ian Charleson award for best classical performance by an actor under 30.
